ASICS Gel Nimbus 25: My Review

The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 is a staple everyday trainer in my shoe rotation as a collegiate athlete.

What I wear ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 for:

I use these shoes largely for easy and medium mileage days where I will not be pushing the pace much. They are extremely comfortable and provide plenty of foam and shock absorption for normal runs, but start to lose their luster as the pace increases. I also find these shoes comfortable enough that my first pair became an everyday walking pair. Personally, I found these shoes as an attempt to expand my trainer rotation from recommendations from many friends who have run in them. I am very glad I decided to purchase a pair.

Sock-like, breathable uppers:

First, the uppers on the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 are very comfortable, reasonably breathable, and fit my foot well. They are equipped with a sock-liner that provides a secure yet comfortable fit. The sock liner feels like well… a sock. The sock liner is very stretchy which makes putting on the shoes quite easy. I particularly like this feature because it means that the tongue of the shoe is continuous with the rest of the upper. I sometimes have issues with shoes that have more “traditional” tongues when the tongues end up bunched up and presses uncomfortably into the top of my foot. The sock liner is the perfect solution to this problem and helps provide a comfortable fit over the top of my foot.

A comfortable, well-cushioned ride

The midsole, as I have mentioned, is very well cushioned and provides plenty of stability for everyday runs on even surfaces. I wouldn’t do any trail running or running on especially uneven surfaces because of how tall their stack height is (41.5mm/33.5mm) and I don’t think they provide enough feel for uneven terrains. However, I love running on them on gravel roads, crushed limestone trails, and paved roads. As long as there is sure fairly even footing, they are my go to trainer. I have never had issues with Achilles tendon rubbing and have found the toe-box to be very comfortable and plenty wide to allow for freedom while providing a stable ride.

Durable and easy to clean

In my experience, I have found the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 to be very durable. I put about 100 miles on my first pair BEFORE they became my walking shoes. They held up very well with no tears or abrasions. I also really like how well the whole shoe cleans up. I got them completely crusted in mud and dust on a run and after I washed them I was amazed at how easily the mud and dirt came right out and the shoes looked as clean as when they were new. Another note along these lines includes how long the shoe laces are and how well they hold knots. I have never had issues with knots coming out of the laces if tied securely. Furthermore, the extra length allows for different ways to lace your shoes such as the heel lock lace.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 is Not a Speed Shoe

Now, I do want to comment on the fact that I would not recommend the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 as workout or speed shoes. These shoes get very warm when trying to go fast and do not have the energy return that many other shoes do. For example I would never do a tempo run, speed workout, or race in these shoes as a competitive athlete. They serve their purpose as a perfect shoe for recovery runs, mileage, hobby jogging, or just going for a run.
